J/Ψ suppressions in a thermally equilibrating quark-gluon plasma at RHIC

چکیده
We estimate the survival probability of J/ψ in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, using both short-distance QCD and nuclear absorption mechanism. The suppression is found to be almost 100 percent for a thermally equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. The measurement of such a huge suppression of J/ψ may suggest the existence of a deconfined partonic medium, possibly a thermalised quark-gluon plasma, at RHIC. We study dilepton production from a thermally equilibrating quark-gluon plasma expected to be formed in ultra relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The pre-equilibrium dynamics of quark-gluon plasma is studied within the color flux-tube model by solving non-abelian relativistic transport equations. This dilepton rate crucially depends on the collision time of the plasma. The results are compared w...

We revisit the standard treatment [Xu, Kharzeev, Satz and Wang, Phys. Rev. C 53, 3051 (1996)] of J/ψ suppression due to gluonic bombardment in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Effects arising from gluon fugacity, relative g − ψ flux, and ψ meson formation time are correctly incorporated in the formulation of the gluon number density, velocity-weighted cross section, and the survival probabi...
متن کاملTheoretical Issues in J/ψ Suppression
Two decades ago Matsui and Satz suggested that Debye screening in the quark-gluon plasma would result in J/ψ suppression in heavy ion collisions. Much has happened in the subsequent years, and the picture of quark-gluon plasma at present is rapidly evolving – what does it imply for the J/ψ suppression? What are the recent RHIC and SPS results trying to tell us? What else has to be done? This ta...
متن کاملJ/ψ Gluonic Dissociation Revisited : III. Effects of Transverse Hydrodynamic Flow
In a recent paper [Eur. Phys. J C 44, 567 (2005)] we developed a very general formulation to take into account explicitly the effects of hydrodynamic flow profile on the gluonic breakup of J/ψ’s produced in an equilibrating quark-gluon plasma. Here we apply that formulation to the case when the medium is undergoing cylindrically symmetric transverse expansion starting from RHIC or LHC initial c...

Charmonium production from the hadron gas formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is studied. Using the J/ψ-hadron absorption cross section determined from the nonperturbative quark-exchange model, which has a peak value similar to that used in the comover model for J/ψ suppression and a thermally averaged value consistent from that extracted from J/ψ data in heavy-ion collisions, we ...
